PNP Entrance Exam vs. Promotional Exam

  • Promotional Examinations (PROMEX) are only for uniformed PNP personnel who want to be promoted to a higher rank.

This reviewer is built for the PNP Entrance Exam.

  • Filipino citizens
  • Holders of a bachelor's degree
  • Not more than 30 years old
  • Patrolmen and Patrolwomen whose appointment is temporary because they lack the right eligibility

Height and other requirements apply when you are appointed to the PNP. Check the current announcement on napolcom.gov.ph before you register.

Sample NAPOLCOM questions with answers

Here are eight questions from our NAPOLCOM question bank, two from each area. Try each one before you open the answer.

General Information

1. Which body has the power to try and decide all cases of impeachment in the Philippines?
A. The Supreme Court
B. The House of Representatives
C. The Ombudsman
D. The Senate

Show answer

D. The Senate. The House of Representatives has the exclusive power to start impeachment cases, but under Article XI, Section 3 of the 1987 Constitution, the Senate has the sole power to try and decide them.

2. How long is one term of a Philippine Senator?
A. 3 years
B. 6 years
C. 9 years
D. 12 years

Show answer

B. 6 years. Article VI, Section 4 of the Constitution sets a Senator's term at six years. Members of the House of Representatives serve three-year terms.

Verbal Reasoning

3. Which sentence is correct?
A. The committee of police officers have reached a unanimous decision.
B. The committee of police officers has reached a unanimous decision.
C. Every one of the suspects were present at the scene.
D. A swarm of bees are attacking the K9 unit.

Show answer

B. The subject is "committee", a collective noun acting as one unit, so it takes the singular verb "has". Don't be distracted by the plural word "officers" right before the verb.

4. What is the best antonym (opposite) of clandestine?
A. Secretive
B. Overt
C. Stealthy
D. Surreptitious

Show answer

B. Overt. Clandestine means done in secret. Overt means done openly. The other three choices are synonyms, so they are the trap.

Quantitative Reasoning

5. Crime incidents in a town went down from 500 to 400 cases. What is the percentage decrease?
A. 20%
B. 10%
C. 25%
D. 15%

Show answer

A. 20%. The decrease is 100 cases. Divide by the original number: 100 รท 500 = 0.20 = 20%. Dividing by 400 instead gives 25%, which is the trap choice.

6. If 8 officers can finish a task in 6 hours, how long will 12 officers take, working at the same rate?
A. 9 hours
B. 3 hours
C. 4 hours
D. 5 hours

Show answer

C. 4 hours. More officers means less time, so this is an inverse proportion. The total work is 8 ร— 6 = 48 officer-hours, and 48 รท 12 = 4 hours.

Logical Reasoning

7. What is the next number: 2, 5, 10, 17, 26, ___?
A. 41
B. 35
C. 39
D. 37

Show answer

D. 37. The gaps are 3, 5, 7, 9, so the next gap is 11. 26 + 11 = 37.

8. All thieves are dishonest. Some dishonest people are caught. What can you conclude?
A. Some thieves are caught
B. Cannot be determined
C. No thieves are caught
D. All thieves are caught

Show answer

B. Cannot be determined. The dishonest people who were caught may or may not include any thieves. "Some thieves are caught" sounds right but does not follow from the two statements.
