The Three Macronutrients

Macronutrients are nutrients that the body uses in relatively large amounts and needs daily.

1. Carbohydrates (4 kcal/g)

The body's primary energy source. Found in grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. Classified as simple (sugars) or complex (starch, fiber).

2. Proteins (4 kcal/g)

Essential for growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Composed of amino acids. Found in meat, poultry, fish, eggs, legumes, and nuts.

3. Fats (9 kcal/g)

Concentrated energy source, essential for nutrient absorption and hormone production. Classified as saturated, unsaturated, and trans fats.
